This closure will close Pershing Drive between Upas Street and Florida Drive/26th Street in Balboa Park to all southbound traffic overnight starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, through 7 a.m. on Friday, October 7. This will allow crews to safely relocate concrete barriers or “K-Rail” to the east to shift the location of the temporary two-way bikeway and walkway onto a newly constructed temporary access road. Please plan to use alternate routes. We appreciate your patience during construction.

Starting Thursday, September 1, 2022, temporary lane closures will be in effect on 26th Street near Pershing Drive to allow crews to safely demolish the existing median and install new underground storm drain infrastructure. The lane closures will be in place on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and the work is expected to take about 2 weeks to complete. No weekend work is anticipated over the Labor Day weekend from Saturday, September 3, 2022, to Monday, September 5, 2022. Flaggers will direct vehicle traffic to adjacent travel lanes around the work area.

CLOSURE OF JACARANDA PLACE AT PERSHING DRIVE TO BEGIN FEBRUARY 16 (Posted 02/16/2022)

Construction crews will begin a 20-month closure of Jacaranda Place at Pershing Drive starting tomorrow, Wednesday, February 16. These closures will allow crews to safely complete construction activities as part of the Pershing Bikeway project in the City of San Diego. People driving, biking, and walking will be detoured and should follow all directional signage.

Traffic and Safety Impact Assessment

SANDAG published a Traffic and Safety Impact Assessment for the project on November 18, 2016. Preparation of this assessment is required before the SANDAG Board of Directors can make a determination that the proposed project is exempt from CEQA under Public Resources Code Section 21080.20.5.

The open house and public hearing marked an important step for the Pershing Bikeway project, following one year of community engagement and project refinement. Attendees were encouraged to learn about the project and speak with project team members. As part of the project’s environmental review process, the SANDAG Transportation Committee approved the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) exemption at their meeting on January 20, 2017.
