The Rose Creek Bikeway was constructed concurrently with the Mid-Coast Extension of the UC San Diego Blue Line Trolley. Together, the Rose Creek Bikeway and Trolley extension will provide a Complete Corridor near Interstate 5 (I-5), giving people more options to travel between points north like Sorrento Valley, University City, and UC San Diego, and points south including Mission Bay, Pacific Beach, Mission Valley, and Downtown San Diego.

Eblast: Rose Creek Bikeway Will be Open for Bike to Work Day Tomorrow – May 19, 2022 (Posted 05/18/22)

Temporary Rose Creek Bikeway Closure – 04/25/22 - 05/30/2022: Starting the week of April 25, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) will perform work on a gas line along a 1.5-mile stretch of the Rose Creek Bikeway between Santa Fe Park RV Resort (5707 Santa Fe St.) and Aquarium Fish Depot (5121 Santa Fe St). Work will occur Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. People biking and driving can expect to share the vehicle traffic lanes on Santa Fe Street during the closure of the bikeway. Flaggers will be present to direct vehicle and bike traffic and a street sweeper will be onsite to clear gravel from the bikeway. Construction is anticipated to be completed in June 2022. Eblast: Rose Creek Bikeway Construction Update - April 2021 (Posted 04/09/21)

Santa Fe Street Traffic Shift: Beginning Tuesday, February 16, and continuing for approximately three weeks, traffic changes will be in effect on Santa Fe Street for crews to pave the Rose Creek Bikeway. Impacts will be in place between Karl Strauss Brewing Company and Jaguar Coventry Cars of San Diego. One lane will remain open at all times, and flaggers will be present to direct traffic. Driveway impacts are anticipated but access will be maintained. Work hours will be Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. (Posted 02/12/21)

Santa Fe Street Traffic Shift and Parking Changes: On Monday, October 19, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., a traffic shift will be in place on Santa Fe Street as crews restripe the roadway between Karl Strauss Brewing Company (5965 Santa Fe Street) and Coventry Cars of San Diego (5097 Santa Fe Street), to accommodate construction of the Rose Creek Bikeway. Following the traffic shift, Santa Fe Street will be in its final alignment and parking on the west side of the street will be removed permanently. Flaggers will be in place to direct motorists. Santa Fe Street Parking Reductions: Within the next two weeks, crews will begin removing parking on the east side of Santa Fe Street, between Karl Strauss Brewing Company and Jaguar Coventry Cars of San Diego, in preparation for construction of the Rose Creek Bikeway. Work hours will generally be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., but night and weekend work may also be required. Street parking will be permanently removed between 5959 Santa Fe Street and 5097 Santa Fe Street. A portion of the parking, between 5965 and 5985 Santa Fe Street, will be restored in 2020. Off-street parking will be maintained. View additional information. (Posted 06/11/19)

Santa Fe Street Parking Reductions: Within the next month, crews will begin the permanent removal of parking on the west side of Santa Fe Street, between Karl Strauss Brewing Company (5965 Santa Fe Street) and Coventry Cars of San Diego (5097 Santa Fe Street), in preparation for construction of the Rose Creek Bikeway. Mission Bay Drive Lane Reductions: Starting the week of October 15, there will be lane reductions and traffic controls in place on southbound Mission Bay Drive, near the intersection of Damon Street. Work will occur from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. and last approximately two weeks. Northbound and southbound Mission Bay Drive will be reduced to one lane while crews pour concrete for a portion of the bike path slab for the Rose Creek Bikeway. Rose Creek Bikeway Bridge Installation - Work to Continue August 2: Due to unexpected delays, work to install a bridge for the Rose Creek Bikeway will continue on Santa Fe August 2, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists and cyclists can expect temporary traffic controls and delays on Santa Fe Street. Flaggers will be present, and one lane of traffic will remain open for the duration of the work. Preliminary construction of the Rose Creek Bikeway is scheduled to begin in January 2018. Initial work will include clearing and removing vegetation in the construction area near the creek between Santa Fe Street and I-5. Major construction, which will begin in June 2018, will include construction of the trail, under-crossings and a bridge. Construction Staging Near Santa Fe Street and Damon Avenue Starts Fall 2017 (Posted 08/30/17)

Final Mitigated Negative Declaration

SANDAG, as lead agency under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), has prepared a Final Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND) for the Rose Creek Bikeway project. The Draft MND was available for a 30-day public review from December 15, 2015 to January 14, 2016. After completion of the public review period, modifications were made to the Draft MND and it was recirculated for an additional 30-day public review from April 7, 2016 to May 9, 2016. The Final MND and Mitigation and Monitoring Reporting Program (MMRP) for the Rose Creek Bikeway were adopted by the SANDAG Board of Directors on May 27, 2016.
