Construction is underway to build San Diego’s first freeway-level transit stations along State Route 15 (SR 15) at University Avenue and El Cajon Boulevard. The project will also construct transit-only lanes within the existing median from just north of Interstate 805 to just south of Interstate 8. This will help improve transfers between the existing Rapid and local transit routes. The new stations will be open in 2017.
As crews work to build the new station platforms and dedicated Rapid transit lanes, nearby residents and businesses can expect intermittent noise during the day and at night in construction areas. Motorists and transit riders can expect intermittent traffic delays and are encouraged to give themselves more time to reach their destination.
