As the regional planning agency, SANDAG administers the Smart Growth Incentive Program and the Active Transportation Grant Program – both funded by the regional TransNet half-cent sales tax for transportation. Since the launch of the Pilot Smart Growth Incentive Program in 2005, more than $22.5 million in federal funds and more than $80 million in TransNet and Transit Development Act (TDA) funds have been distributed to the cities and the County of San Diego to complete scores of planning and capital projects. We invite you to take a tour of some of the projects funded to date by checking out the interactive map below.
Smart Growth Incentive and Active Transportation Grants: Project Highlights
These strategic investments have spurred smart growth in key transportation corridors, revitalized business districts from Oceanside to Chula Vista, and enhanced bike, pedestrian, and transit access regionwide. Some of these grant-funded projects have garnered local, state, and national recognition for their innovativeness. By incentivizing compact, mixed use development and mobility choices, both grant programs work together to improve the health of our communities and overall quality of life.
