Encinitas Pedestrian Crossings
SANDAG and the City of Encinitas are planning two grade-separated pedestrian undercrossings along the LOSSAN rail corridor in the City of Encinitas, in addition to two other crossings at Santa Fe Drive, which opened in 2013, and El Portal Street, which opened in 2022.
The purpose of the new pedestrian undercrossings is to improve safe and legal access to beaches, schools, commercial areas, and residential neighborhoods across the North County Transit District (NCTD) coastal rail line.
The projects include the construction of pedestrian undercrossings and rail bridges, landscape beautification, crosswalks, and other street crossing improvements on adjacent roadways. The projects also include utility relocations and environmental mitigation as needed.
The projects are located near the following streets in the City of Encinitas:
- El Portal Street, completed in 2022
- Montgomery Avenue
- Hillcrest Drive
- Santa Fe Drive, completed in 2013
