Full Closure of NB I-5 for Gilman Drive Bridge Work: A series of full overnight closures of northbound lanes of Interstate 5 are scheduled to begin on Sunday, November 4 and continue through Thursday, November 8. Work hours are from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning. Lanes will be temporarily closed overnight for the removal of the Gilman Drive falsework, the temporary structures used to support the Gilman Drive Bridge until final construction is completed. Northbound motorists will be detoured via SR 52 East and I-805 North and should anticipate delays. (Note: these closures were completed earlier than anticipated. The original duration was through Thursday, November 15.) View additional information.
Closures of I-5 lanes at Gilman Drive: Some night work will require lane and/or ramp closures on I-5 for work on the new Gilman Drive Bridge. Motorists should anticipate delays and take alternate routes to avoid potential congestion. This is part of a series of overnight closures needed to complete bridge infrastructure. Concurrent with this project, SANDAG is designing and constructing the Mid-Coast Trolley project, an 11-mile extension of the San Diego Trolley Blue Line that runs parallel to and crosses over I-5. SANDAG is coordinating closely between the two projects to ensure smooth construction and effective use of space and resources. View Mid-Coast Trolley construction notices.
