Transit Projects
The I-15 Express Lanes and the associated transit stations and direct access ramp projects are now fully constructed along the corridor. This completes the infrastructure necessary for Rapid, the Bus Rapid Transit system which launched in 2014.
Rapid service greatly expands the previous Premium Express system that had been using the Express Lanes during peak-hour commutes. Rapid runs more often, has longer hours of service, and goes to more places, connecting residential areas with major employment centers and leisure destinations.

Kearny Mesa Transit Improvements
Several improvements for the Rapid service and the Kearny Mesa community are underway:
- Transit Signal Priority, on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. between SR 163 and I-15, that will allow Rapid vehicles to move through traffic more efficiently and maintain schedule reliability (completed July 2015).
- New Rapid stop on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. at Ruffin Road to serve the new Kaiser Permanente Medical Center (completed November 2017).
- Studies to upgrade existing transit stops, improve transit connections, and enhance walking and biking options.
