I-5/I-8 Connector Project

Caltrans District 11 constructed an additional westbound lane on I-8 between Taylor Street and the I-8/I-5 interchange to improve traffic safety and operations in the area. Work began in 2018 and was completed in summer 2019.

Caltrans constructed an additional northbound lane and auxiliary lanes on I-5 between I-8 and Sea World Drive in San Diego. It also added a lane on westbound I-8 at the northbound I-5 connector to relieve congestion at the interchange. Construction began in June 2014 and the connector opened to traffic in October 2015.
